As the amount of KOs in boxing has been constantly decreasing over the past twenty years, technical and tactical elements have become more and more important. This includes the art of deception in boxing. Inspite of the fact that deceptions have become a key element, it has not been throroughly analysed during the past twentyeight years. The thesis gives a complete systematisation of the different kinds of deceptions in boxing, including simple, complex and combined deceptions and places them into the context of technical and tactical skills. 19 of these 22 different deceptive actions are then analysed in the 16 semi-finals and 12 finals of the Olympic boxing tournament in Sydney 2000 (the three different kinds of deceptive actions with the eyes cannot be analysed due to the limitations of the video material of the Games nor was it possible to get transmissions of all 24 semi-finals, but only of 16).The television video material of these fights was digitalised and analysed at reduced speed (generally with 50% of normal speed) (SEG Type VCR 2350 with TV-card type "Hauptauge", Windows DVD Version 5). The system was objective (inter-analyser rating of R=.99), reliable (only .3% of the fights was not visible due to poor camara position), and valid (all deceptive actions were analysed only the 17.6% of the deceptions with the eyes could not). The results are discussed in terms of the theoretical implications for the analysis of depetions and some methodological conclusions for the development of the training of boxing were drawn.de
