Abstract
English
Aim of the study: To compare the efficacy of different application techniques of calcium hydroxide in artificial, curved root canals.Methodology: 180 artificial root canals made of plastic material were divided into 3 groups (n=60) and were shaped and prepared using the automatic nickel-titanium system Flexmaster® to apical sizes of 02/25, 02/35 and 02/45. Working length was 17,5 mm. Every group was divided in 3 subcategories (n=20). The root canals were randomized and blinded and 3 different application techniques were used to fill them with calcium hydroxide: Application with a Hypocal® syringe and spreading by a Pastinject®, Application with a Hypocal® Syringe and compaction by an endodontic paper point, Application with a Hypocal® syringe and spreading by an ultrasonic activated Reamer. Following x-rays of the filles root canals were taken under standardized conditions and evaluated using a score system. The data were analyzed with a non-parametric statistical test for longitudinal data. Results: None of the application techniques was unequivocally predominant compared to the other application techniques. Conclusion: Root canals with a small apical size of ISO 25 are best filled with calcium hydroxide using a Pastinject®. In root canals with apical sizes of ISO 35 and 45 the best results are achieved using an ultrasonic activated reamer.
