In the present work we addressed several important problems regarding local extensions of chiral conformal quantum field theories. We showed that by methods from the algebraic approach the superselection structure of all local extensions of Virasoro nets with central charge less than one is completely determined. We explored local Möbius invariant commutators in chiral theories following closely the example of the Lüscher-Mack theorem. Finally, we studied the deformation theory of these commutators using cohomological methods.
