untersucht. Mit Hilfe eines Heckman-Sample-Selection-Modells werden
Determinanten der Zahlungsbereitschaft bestimmt. | de |

dc.description.abstracteng | This dissertation is divided to three
essays that summarise groundwater demand studies in pistachio
production of the Rafsanjan aquifer in southeastern Iran from three
different methodological approaches. It is said that groundwater is
the world's most extracted raw material, but its use and management
have yet to be fully quantified. The work covered in this thesis is
motivated by the limited application of economic principles to the
management of groundwater resources, the importance of
understanding groundwater demand and willingness to pay as part of
a strategy to manage this resource, and the importance of
groundwater resources for general water supply in Iran. This
research is a contribution to the few studies on the econometric
estimation of scarcity rents of groundwater and the groundwater
market. The field survey data gathered from November 2008 to
February 2009 have been used for empirical analysis. With three
implicitly connected research topics being proposed, both
theoretical discussions and empirical estimations of groundwater
demand structure and spot water markets are comprehensively
presented in the thesis. In the first paper, the spatial
econometric approach is used to analyse the demand for irrigation
water from depleting groundwater resources in pistachio production
with the help of the translog cost function. In the second paper,
the logit model is applied to identify factors affecting the
farmers' participation in spot water markets. In the third paper,
the factors affecting the willingness to pay for groundwater in a
spot water market are analysed with the Heckman sample selection
model that emphasise the effects of farmers' decisions to
participate in the spot water market. | de |
