Abstract

Purpose: In this in-vitro study the influence of two different adhesive composites and their retention on two different abutments was examined. Materials and methods: Forty implants were embedded in resin blocks. Forty titanium abutments were fabricated: twenty with a height of 4,31 mm and twenty with a height of 6,79 mm. The zirconia crowns were manufactured through the CAD/CAM system and cemented with RelyX™ Unicem and Multilink Automix. All samples were thermally cycled to simulate the oral conditions. The decementing was executed in an universal testing machine and the results were statistically evaluated with ANOVA. Results: RelyX™ Unicem showed the highest level of retentiveness. The retention force between the crown and the abutment was even higher then the screw connection, so that the screw connection was broken. However, the samples of Multilink Automix were all decementated. Conclusion: The abutment height influences the retention independent on the luting agent. A higher abutment results in better retention. Both luting agents can be used for the definitive cementation of zirconia crowns. RelyX™ Unicem shows that a conditioning oft the abutment and crown is not mandatory to receive good results.
