Abstract
English
The aim of the study was to evaluate different dental plastics for the possibility of sterilization and for form stability in order for them to be used (law-compliant) as an implant drilling template. Five plastics were examined: Impla Steri Guide, Eclipse, Primotec, Palavit G and Orthocryl. 15 test bodies were made of each plastic, each in the form of a horseshoe, and equipped with five metal pins. Those pins enable the measuring of distance and surface before and after sterilization with an optical method. The company producing Impla Steri Guide had already been advertising the possibility of sterilization at the time of investigation but without providing any specific information or scientific studies to back up this claim. Therefore we examined its form stability and compared it with four other plastics. The results of the optical measurements shows a form variation for all plastics, in particular Orthocryl and Palavit G. After sterilization, all surfaces changed as did distances between metal pins. Almost all test bodies of Impla Steri Guide (15/15), of Primotec (14/15) and of Eclipse (14/15) fitted on the source form. The results are of clinical relevance because the Medicinal Products Act demands the sterilization of implant drilling templates. On the basis of our results, three of the measured plastics (Impla Steri Guide, Eclipse and Primotec) can be used as implant drilling templates due to the fact that changes are minimal (between 0,5 mm and -0,5 mm). Future research should investigate more plastics to be used as implant drilling templates.
