The study beguins with a profound analysis of proper names as a category of signs and of the reference of proper names in literary texts. On this basis the semantics, the functions and the ways of usage of proper names in German, English, Spanish and Dutch poems are analysed systematically. The last chapter shows the benefit of onomastic analysis in the studies of literary texts, analysing the poems of Theodor Fontane and Edwin Arlington Robinson.

Die Arbeit beginnt mit einer umfassenden sprachphilosophischen Analyse der Zeichenkategorie "Eigenname" und der Referenz literarischer Texte. Darauf aufbauend werden die Semantik, die Funktionen und die Verwendungsmöglichkeiten von Eigennamen in Gedichten deutscher, englischer, spanischer und niederländischer Sprache systematisch untersucht. Schließlich werden namentheoretische Analysen beispielhaft für die Analyse der Werke Theodor Fontanes und Edwin Arlington Robinsons fruchtbar gemacht.
