In this thesis a software system for modelling and visualisation of forest landscapes named L VIS is introduced. It uses computer visualisation of forest dominated landscapes that are characterised by a long-lasting, temporal dynamic and large spatial extent. By building upon the human ability to derive complex facts from understanding images the system bridges the differences in temporal and spatial scale between the human perception and forest development. The usage of a single-tree simulator in combination with time-lapse techniques allows four dimensional movements in the virtual landscape. The results of the program are presented in three different practical applications.de
