Kontrast. | de |

dc.description.abstracteng | With the Adaptive Optics (AO) System KAOS
(Kiepenheuer Adaptive Optics System), installed at the
Vacuum-Tower-Telescope (VTT) on Tenerife (Spain) and
developed at the Kiepenheuer-Institut for solar physics
(KIS) in Freiburg (Germany), observations with
online correction of the atmospheric seeing have
been possible for a few years. Thus, we obtain
significantly more high quality raw image data, than it
was possible without AO. Problems, however, appear when
we consider the specific technique of further image
treatment, as well as there arrise difficulties in the
scientific interpretation of the quantitative
information content of such data. The reason for this
is to be found mainly in the changed statistics of the
residual wave front errors after AO compensation, when
compared to the pure atmospheric influences. The impact
of the differences and the strength of the effects
depend, of course, on the sensitivity of the AO system,
which in turn reacts to the actual atmospheric
conditions and therefore becomes time dependent. In
addition, the data show a second conspicuous effect,
namely the anisoplanatism, which stems from the
correction of the wave front in only one distinguished
viewing direction. With this, we have an imaging
quality changing within the field of view (FOV),
depending on the light"s corresponding propagation path
through the earth"s turbulent atmosphere. As a third
effect, the time delay between measurement and applied
correction of the wave front influences the
compensation performance even further. From the desire to investigate the performance of
KAOS and its effect on the image quality I chose
numerical simulations for the presented work in order
to model the actual point spread function (PSF) or the
equivalent optical transfer function (OTF). Wave
fronts, represented by synthetic phase screens with
atmospheric statistics for the phase retardations, were
propagated through the optical setup, where the main
optical elements of KAOS were modelled to warrant a
phase compensation of the wave fronts as realistic as
possible. For each sequence of such corrected phase
screens, i.e. smoothed wave fronts, the according
longterm-PSF and speckle transfer function (STF) was
calculated for a number of combinations of certain
parameters (viewing angle, level of compensation,
turbulence strength, wind) and the impact on the image
quality investigated. The results of this simulation have been applied to
real observational image data in the ""Göttinger
Speckle Masking Reconstruction Algorithm"", where the
traditional assumption of a constant PSF throughout the
FOV could be abandoned. Here, the comparison with the
conventional method shows significant discrepancies in
reconstructed intensities as well as in the
rms-contrast. | de |
