untersuchen.
vorgegebenen Betrag. Hierbei wird die Prognosegüte der komplexen
Markov-Switching Autoregressive Conditional Duration Modelle (Hujer
et al., 2002) betrachtet. Dabei wird gezeigt, dass dieses Modell
bei ausschließlicher out-of-sample Betrachtung keine allzu
zufriedenstellenden Ergebnisse liefert.
kurzfristigen Volatilitäten von intra-day Preisbewegungen
entwickelt.
verwendet.
geliefert.(Literaturverzeichnis:Hujer, R.; Vuletić, S. and Kokot,

dc.description.abstracteng | This dissertation is concerned with the
forecasting performance of time series models for the price
movements of high-frequency transaction data on the Frankfurt Stock
Exchange. The availability of high quality data of this kind at an
affordable cost makes it possible to investigate the intra-daily
price movements and their relationship with the corresponding
trading volumes. The first of the two main chapters is concerned
with models to describe price durations, i.e. the time intervals
between successive price changes of at least a predetermined
amount. We investigate the forecasting performance of the
sophisticated Markov-switching autoregressive conditional duration
model proposed by Hujer et al. (2002). It is demonstrated that the
model performed quite poorly if strictly out-of-sample assessments
are made. The source of this problem is identified and an
explanation is provided as to why the findings in the literature
suggest a more positive view of the model. In the second main
chapter a new approach is developed to forecast the short-term
volatility of intraday price movements. The objective is to model
the distribution of the return on a share at regular short time
intervals. The model used to forecast the distribution of the
returns (and hence their volatility) makes use of lagged volume as
a covariate. This model has two components of which the first
models the occurrence/non-occurrence of a price change; the second
models the return achieved given that a price change has occurred.
Two-state hidden Markov models (HMMs) are used for each of the
components. In order to assess its forecast performance a baseline
model (here an exponential smoother) is also used to forecast
volatility (measured here as squared return). In the majority of
the series investigated the two-component HMM does indeed
outperform the baseline model. A simple explanation is provided for
those cases in which the model performed
poorly.(Bibliography:Hujer, R.; Vuletić, S. and Kokot, S. (2002),
