The focus of the investigation is on the "Book of Lamentations". It was written by the learned monk, mystic and poet Gregory in the context of the convent school of Narek at the turn of the 10th Century. The theme of the book originates in the sacred memory culture and religious value system of its time. The work is written in the form of supplications and confessions. It acts as a monument to the petitioner, whose Christ is to commemorate the day of his arrival. The monumentalization counteracts the transformation of the identity within the Armenian cultural landscape. This transformation is due to the influences of various currents of thought and world views, of Byzantine, Arab and Iranian cultures. It leads to syncretism and formation of groups that deviate from the established value system. As a representative of the national-religious unity and identity, the Armenian Church tries to counteract this process. The characteristics of this process are especially apparent in the work of the monastic schools. In this context, the school of the monastery of Narek is to be seen. The transformation of the Armenian cultural landscape mainly leads to the following questions: What form of social manifestation and value system is the "true" one? What are the "right" healing ethics, according to which one should live? These questions relate to cultural self-positioning and the connective structure of society - on membership, orientation, integration and salvation of individuals. The kulturelle Selbstverortung [cultural self-localization] can be seen as a reproduction of the value system of society. The value order is connected to the collective way of salvation as a central connective principle of social life. The study shows that the conception of the "Book of Lamentations" stands in the context of cultural self-positioning. The book aims at offering society a path to salvation. In this context, it acts as a connective principle for the Christian way of life.de
