dc.description.abstracteng | Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disease, a disease that affects women, especially in the postmenopausal phase of life. At the same time postmenopausal women have an increased risk of getting the metabolic syndrome. This is a condition which enhances the development of osteoporosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of ecdysone and vitamin d on postmenopausal, osteoporotic bones associated with the metabolic syndrome. For this reason the effects of ecdysone, vitamin d and estradiol should be demonstrated by feeding the substances to ovariectomized rats and using histological methods. In reference to this, body-weight, thickness of joint cartilage, cortical bone, growth plate and zones, further area percentage of trabecular bone, red and yellow bone marrow and different serum markers (cholesterol, leptin, glucose, osteocalcin, rat-laps) were determined.
Ovariectomy led to the expected serious bone loss and an increase in body weight. Ecdysone has beneficial effects on body-weight, serum leptin levels and bone markers and may be able to prevent the metabolic syndrome of the bone. | de |
