The dental implantology currently delivers the best prosthetic rehabilitation of missing teeth. The reliable succesful restorations made the treatment accessible for vast group of patients. Osteoporosis, a disease prevalent in the older population group is not ideally suited for the bony integration of dental implants. In this study the amelioration of the implant site using polylactides welded into the bone was studied in Göttingen mini pigs. In a split-mouth design, SPI element-implants were set into the ameliorated upper and lower jaw of the subjects. After healing periods of 1, 3, 6, and 12 months single radiographs were made and evaluated by experienced raters. Addtionally osteolytic, not osseointegrated zones were measured. Statistical analysis showed a high interindividual correllation between the raters. Unsatisfactorly, the expected healing in the ameliorated sites was not optimal. Especially in the upper jaw, a increase in the osteolytic area was seen using polylactid amelioration. In the lower jaw, an unexpected high number of implants were lost.de
