Abstract

English

Whilst meningiomas have been subject of extensive prior research, this publication examines the genesis mechanism of peritumoral edema by quantifying the influence of age, sex, tumor size, tumor location, and histological subtype on incidence rate and size of edema in meningiomas. The empirical analysis of MRT imagery and surgery records of 132 patients who underwent surgical treatment of meningioma at Universitätsklinikum Göttingen between 2005 and 2009 confirms a significant influence of sex, location, and tumor size on edema incidence rate but rejects the hypothesis of age or histological subtype influencing edema incidence.
