Abstract
English
The aim of this doctoral thesis was to investigate (micro-) structural alterations of the brain in patients with idiopathic-generalized epilepsy. 25 patients, subdivided in IGE (13) and in the subclass juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME, 12), as well as 44 healthy controls were scanned at a 3T MRI-Scanner at the MR Research Group Göttingen with conventional and new MRI-protocols (T1-weighted images, DTI, T1 Relaxometry and semi-quantitative magnetization transfer mapping). Using TBSS for the DTI data, a comparison between patients and healthy controls shows large changes in white matter tracts (FA reductions and MD increases). Voxel-based morphometry of the T1-weighted images, T1 Relaxometry and MT-mapping from 13 patients with IGE and 11 patients with JME compared to 38 controls does not detect significant alterations.
