Abstract

English

We investigated the relevance of serum antibodies against the myelin proteins myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein and myelin basic protein prior to the first manifestation of multiple sclerosis. Therefor we collected samples of patients, who had donored blood before their diagnosis. IgG and IgM antibodies against linear epitopes were tested by immunoblot. Results: We obtained 58 samples of 25 patients in an interval of 7,3 years to 2 months before the clinically isolated syndrome. Correlations to symptomatology and heaviness of the first event were not found. Also the was no significant differences of antibodystatus between patients and age and gender matched healthy blood donors.
Keywords: MOG; MBP; multiple sclerosis; antibodies
