Y: In this study, short-term, verticale whole-body Vibration (WBV) at 35 Hz, 50 Hz, 70 Hz and 90 Hz was testet to trabecular bone quality, Rigidity and Densitiy on the femur of the osteoporotic rat. We saw an improvement of trabecular bone quality, rigidity and density in xxxxx. These results may lead to the thesis, that the treatment tested in this study may be an attractive treatment of osteoporosis. INTRODUCTION: Beside the pharmacological options to treat Osteoporosis, physical exercise is known to strengthen bone mass. In our study we investigate, the effects of vertical WBV on bone quality, rigidity and density, using an osteoporotic rat model. METHODS: Ninety female Sprague Dawley rats were divides into 6 groups of 15 rats. At the age of three month group 2 to 6 was ovariectomized, whereas group 1 served as a control group. Group 2 to 6 received WBV at 35Hz, 50 Hz, 70 Hz and 90 Hz for 30 days. After sacrificing the rats, we evaluated femoral bone strength, histomorphometric parameters and bone mineral density (BMD). RESULTS: Treatment with vertical WBV at frequencies of 35 Hz and 70 Hz resulted in improved biomechanical properties, whereas the vibration with 90 Hz showed a reduction the parameters tested. CONCLUSION: Using WBV as a non-pharmacological Option to treat osteoporosis may lead to an enhancement of bone strength and bone mass. There are still studies to be continued to evaluate the most effective length of treatment and frequencie (Hz) to maximize osteoporotic bone strength.de
