In a standardized and randomized process bovine teeth were subject to the preparation and filling of cavities with amalgam and composite and afterwards were irradiated with radiation doses of 60 Gray and 90 Gray. The evaluation and statistical analysis of the marginal fit after radiation showed that both filling materials showed no relevant changes of the marginal gap before and after irradiation neither in microscopic nor in clinical examination. Within the limitations of this study no negative effects of radiotherapy on the dental materials amalgam and composite and the adjacent marginal enamel were evaluated.
