Forty full-ceramic zirconia single crowns for molar teeth were fabricated using the cara TRIOS CAD/CAM-System (Heraeus Kulzer GmbH, Hanau). Twenty single crowns were produced on the basis of a silicon-based conventional impression technique and twenty were based on an intraoral digital impression. The precision of fit was evaluated and compared using the replica technique. The pairwise statistical comparison showed no significant differences in the marginal fit of zirconia single crowns regardless of using the digital or conventional impression technique. Concerning the internal fit statistical differences were found in specific areas, where the digital impression technique showed a better precision of fit. Additionally this study showed that both conventional and digital impression techniques result in satisfactory precision of fit of CAD/CAM-fabricated zirconia single crowns.
