| dc.description.abstracteng | This study aimed at investigating characteristics of the pharmacological treatment of patients with somatoform disorders on the long-term in the interval between 2005 and 2012. Respective variables, before all psychotropic drug treatment were to be compared to previous results from Rahimi and co-workers (data from 1993-2004), and the recent treatment guidelines for somatoform disorders.
Psychotropic drug treatment in this patient cohort displayed treatment with substances of all sub-classes. Before initiation of inpatient treatment sedative drugs were preferentially prescribed. Antidepressant drug treatment was increased significantly (.002) over the inpatient treatment episode. Additionally, sedative low-potential antipsychotics and benzodiazepines were prescribed frequently. However, apart from the use of tricyclic antidepressant drugs, no respective treatment can be regarded as evidence based or according to recent guidelines.
The choice of psychotropic drug treatment appears to be related before all, to comorbid psychiatric conditions. Compared to the previous investigational period (1993-2004) a trend to prescribing less sedative drug became evident. Taken together, there is an obvious need for further research and placebo controlled pharmacological trials in patients with somatoform disorders. | de |
