CSC is the fourth most common retinal disease leading to macular edema. It primarily affects people of working age and causes acute and limiting visual deterioration. Usually, acute-onset CSC has a good spontaneous course. In quite a few cases, however, the macular edema does not resolve spontaneously and the visual acuity does not recover. This is called chronic CSC. To give an overview of the variable course of the disease and to make a statement about the value of different therapeutic approaches, we retrospectively evaluated functional and morphological parameters in patients with chronic CSC based on the files and the photo archive. Between January 2015 and December 2016, a total of 96 eyes of 80 patients were identified. Of the three therapeutic approaches identified, PDT was the most promising with the greatest effect for decreasing central retinal thickness and an increase in central visual acuity. MPL also showed promising results for both target parameters. Based on newly published data, the recommendation to treat CSC with eplerenone outside of large-scale trials has been withdrawn in 2020. The results of this work fit in, showing the smallest effect on SRF and visual acuity with eplerenone.
