The suitability of ESI-MS for the analysis of carbanions was investigated, including the effects of their basicity, concentration and the experimental conditions. This was followed by exemplary applications, such as live reaction monitoring and thermodynamic parameter determination by the kinetic method. The reaction monitoring was focussed on the anionic polymerization of disubstituted cyclopropanes and the coordinative anionic polymerization of isoprene on cobalt. In both cases, the monitoring was successful and allowed for the calculation of individual rate constants for different chain lengths.de
