Abstract

English

In this thesis, we analysed the impact of age on the histopathology of multiple sclerosis. For this, we examined tissue sections of brain biopsies of MS-patients, 28 belonging to late onset multiple sclerosis (age ≥ 50 years old by initial manifestation of disease) versus 25 patients of normal age at diagnosis (20-40 years old). We examined the clinical course and the histological hallmarks comprising the density of macrophages and infiltration of inflammatory cells, axonal density, density of oligodendrocytes and remyelination.

In dieser Doktorarbeit untersuchten wir den Einfluss des Alters auf die Histopathologie der Multiplen Sklerose. Hierfür wurden Hirnbiopsien von MS-Patienten untersucht. 28 Patienten waren der Late-Onset-MS-Kohorte zuzuordnen (Alter bei Krankheitsmanifestation ≥ 50 Jahre), 25 Patienten gehörten dem typischen Erstmanifestationsalter an (20-40 Jahre). Untersucht wurden der klinische Verlauf, sowie die histologischen Merkmale Makrophagendichte, Entzündungsinfiltrat sowie die axonale Dichte, Oligodendrozytendichte und Remyelinisierung.
