Abstract
English
The dissertation investigates the textual genealogy of codex Vat. pers. 4, the earliest Persian manuscript of the Gospel of Matthew, copied in 1312. The dissertation includes a detailed introduction to the codex and its copies, an edition of its text, and layers of linguistic and textual analysis of the text, comparing it with certain Syriac, Arabic, and other Persian versions of the gospels. The study depicts Vat. pers. 4's text as a Persian gospel projected in the fourteenth century, which on the one hand, carries certain Persian and Arabic elements typical for the products of the time, and, on the other hand, has its roots in an ancient Syriac tradition.
