Abstract

English

The background of this doctoral thesis is the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which was adopted in 1989. In addition to protection and care, children are granted the right to participation, or more precisely, the right to take part in decisions concerning their own lives. The right to participation also applies to medicine. Children must be given a chance to be involved in medical decisions. To investigate how a participation-friendly children's hospital should be designed, empirical and analytical-critical methods were applied. Based on a systematic literature review and its evaluation, a portfolio of participation methods was developed, critically reviewed, and evaluated. With the help of an analytical-critical methodology, relevant terms and rights were derived, the essential ethical principles were identified on the basis of principlism, and a synthesis in the form of an overall model was created.
