dc.description.abstracteng	This thesis consists of three essays which measure land security, estimate agricultural efficiency and farm productivity, and analyze their impacts on farm income in rural China. The work covered in this thesis is motivated by the impressive performance of China s agricultural production since the reform in 1979 and the currently hotly disputed issues on rural land policy reform. With three implicitly connected research topics being proposed, both theoretical discussions and empirical estimations have been comprehensively conducted in the thesis. This study contributes to the literature explaining China s agricultural productivity and efficiency change in the past three decades, the ongoing assessment of land tenure security under China s unique land tenure system, and, specifically, the impact of land tenure insecurity on farm household productive efficiency and thus in farm household income.	de
