Abstract
English
Synods of preachers had been established in the wake of church visitations at the end of the 17th century, both as a necessity for pastor training and for church supervision of the preachers had been established. Based on the experience that the academic training of pastors at the universities and in the preachers' seminary did not appear to be sufficient the preachers' synods first served as a continuation of university studies and were therefore less practice-oriented and much more oriented toward the theological disputations of the articles of the Confessio Augustana. In comparison with other German states, this observation applies not only, but predominantly, to the pastors in the Duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, and here especially to the pastors in the countryside. It is to this target group that this study is directed. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)
