| de |

dc.description.abstracteng | Merging galaxy system Markarian 266 (also NGC 5256) is a double nucleus system. This system lies at a distance of 115 Mpc. The two nuclei are thought to comprise a low-ionization nuclear emission-line region (LINER) to the north of the system and a Seyfert type 2 to the south. A large X-Ray gas cloud can be seen to the north of the system (High-Excitation Regions). Taking into account the optical line intensity ratios, the optical and X-Ray morphology, and the X-Ray luminosity in High-Excitation Regions, the most plausible mechanism explaining the X-Ray luminosity is excitation by hot postshock gas caused by fast shock (Kollatschny 1998). The shock model by Dopiya and Sutherland (1996) can account for the observed ratios of the high-excitation Regions. The High-Excitation Regions produced through a merging process of the galaxies. | de |
