| de |

dc.description.abstracteng | This work reports on excimer laser irradiation of pure iron and austenitic stainless steel in methane atmospheres. The laser-material-interaction plays a basic role enabling a substantial carbon incorporation into the sample. The carburized materials are investigated by means of XRD, RBS, Mössbauer spectroscopy (CEMS/CXMS), MOKE, EXAFS and nanoindentation. Different Fe-C-compounds can be formed by variation of the processing parameters gas pressure, number of laser shots and energy density. It is possible to produce single-phase layers up to a thickness of 1 μm which are constituted of carbides like ε-FexC or the hard θ-Fe3C (cementite). The surface of the stainless steel exhibits amorphous, magnetic properties. | de |
